Avignon

From May 31st
Today we left Barcelona pretty early and had a 4 hour bus ride to Avignon, a city not too far from the coast. We arrived in the early afternoon and parked the buses outside of the city. It is interesting that the old ramparts that surround and guard the city are still intact, making a solid barrier to the old city. We walked as one big group to the main church and the square in the city but from there had free time for 4 hours. I walked along the river a bit with Crash, saw the half bridge that sticks out into the river like a dock, and I finally was able to mail my postcards from Paris. As I was walking into the main square I suddenly saw Cassidy Grummer run in front of me! Earlier as we were walking by the church, I heard that a group of Rotary exchange students from Denmark were on their EuroTour and Avignon at the same time as us. I tried looking for her if by chance she would be there, but I didn’t see her until she ran up to me. I was so happy to see someone from home! And the odds of running into her in ALL of Europe are kind of astronomical. We sat down at an outdoor café and talked for more than half an hour. I met a couple of her exchange friends, and we talked all about our EuroTours and exchange in general. That was by far the highlight of my day! At 17:00 we all met at the buses again and drove to our hotel. We had dinner at a large buffet not too far away and tomorrow we are driving through Monaco!
